Colposcopy

It is a medical test done to closely examine the cervix,vagina and vulva.it is done with the help of a scope.

Recommended patients:

  • It is usually done for unhealthy cervix seen in opd by a gynaecologist

  • In patients with recurrent or persistent white discharge.

  • Patients with inter cycle bleeding or spotting

  • Women With post coital spotting through vagina

  • It is specifically done in patients with abnormal PAP report with or without an abnormal hpv-dna report.

Uses: This test is used to diagnose and then treat pre cancer conditions of the lower genital tract especially the cervix

How is the test useful: If HPV positive patient undergoes colposcopy and excision of affected area,all abnormal cells can be removed this may help he patient to prevent cancer in the future

Requirement For Treatment Procedure: One day admission and short general anesthesia is required

Surgeries Done:

  • Leep or Lletz Excision of abnormal area seen through colposcope

  • Conization cone shaped area of cervix excised from outer surface to inner canal if disease is found to be extending in the cervical canal

  • Cryotherapy Tissue is frozen with a freezing gas using a special gun. especially done for young women and smaller disease

Timing:- colposcopy and treatment are best avoided during menses. notify us if your pregnant, so that certain procedures can be avoided
